3 Steal-Worthy Tips for Applying Eyelashes
3D Mink eyelashes are, doubtlessly, a total beauty revolution. They're not, however, as easy as swiping on a coat of mascara. Whether you're just starting out in the world of falsies or you rock them on a regular basis but want to streamline your routine, here are some of our favourite secrets for applying them like a pro.
Use tweezers
From delicately removing the lashes from their packaging to doing a final fluff to make sure they really pop, having a pair of tweezers handy is your new your secret weapon. Don't make things difficult for yourself by using your fingers! Here's some of the things we like using tweezers for when it comes to applying mink lashes:
- Use tweezers to (gently) remove the lashes from their packaging. They can be nestled in there quite tightly, which makes the lashes easier to ship and store, yet also makes them kind of a chore to remove. If you're not careful, you can even damage them by being rough. Using the tweezers, grasp the lashes while gently bending the plastic casing outwards, encouraging the lashes to "pop" out of their casing.
- Holding the lash band against your eyelid is necessary to see if you need to trim the lash band. At this stage, using your fingers to hold it up can be awkward and can make it a less precise measuring job.Using tweezers lets you see better and makes it generally easier to move the lashes around.
- Once you've placed your new falsies onto your natural lashes, use tweezers to hold squeeze them in place before you let them dry. This prevents you getting glue on your fingers and gives you more control and precision.
- Final fluff: Once they've dried, very gently use the side of your tweezers on the underside of your upper lashes to press them up. This gives them a bit of extra pop and makes sure they're positioned properly, framing your eyes the way your naturals would if you curled them.
Be mindful of your glue
The adhesive you use to apply your 3D mink lashes really matters, as does the way you apply it. Apply in the inner and outer corners of the lash band first, gently dotting across the mid portion and then use an applicator tool to spread it across. Some people prefer to use translucent glue, which has the obvious advantage of not showing once its dried, but white adhesive is easily covered with a swipe of liquid eyeliner and makes it easier to see where you're applying on the band.
Another thing to be mindful of is the time you allow it to set. Once you've applied the adhesive to the lash band, you must wait 30 seconds for it to develop its full adhesive properties. Only then should you begin putting the lashes on. Skipping this step could cause them to loosen prematurely, or not stick at all, a major bummer on a Friday night!
Look downwards into your mirror
It might seem intuitive to stand up and get really close to your bathroom mirror when applying your 3D lashes, but it's actually not the most ideal angle. We recommend sitting or standing and placing a large hand mirror on your counter-top. Then, angle your gaze downwards as you start to apply your lashes. This will give you the most optimal view, making it easy to see your entire lid so you can place your lashes as as precisely as possible. This also makes it easier for you to lock your elbows down, for added stability.
If you choose to camouflage any visible adhesive with liquid eyeliner, this is also an excellent angle for applying it, similar to the way you would angle your gaze when doing a liquid cat's eye.
